Major current environmental issues may include climate change, pollution, environmental degradation, extinction of species and resource depletion.
Due to global warming, glaciers are shrinking at record rates and many could disappear within decades, which lead to the raise in sea level, and submergence of coastal areas. On the other side, planet Earth could lose 50% of its species by 2050 as we are losing 27,000 species each year. We are also losing 40 million acres of our forest each year, through logging and land clearing only 12% of the planets forests are still in their natural state.
Environmental issues are addressed at a regional, nation or international level by government organisations. Globally, the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Union for Conservation of Nature coordinates various activities.
