Governance consists of the traditions and institutions by which authority in a country is exercised. In the world today, there are around 51 countries which are still under authoritarian rule. Out of 123 Democracies, the ‘Democracy Index’ identifies only 25 countries with Full democracy.
As the world grapples with serious issues of various kinds, the effective Governance of International Institutions including the United Nations become very prominent. The global financial institutions, market economy, political leadership at local, national and global level need to be more transparent, fairer, and more democratic. Interventions that promote accountability and reduce corruption need to be developed.
